LinkedIn Tip: Do This Before You Make Profile Edits

LinkedIn Quick TipQuick LinkedIn tip for you! If you have a lot of changes to make on your LinkedIn profile, I suggest you do this first. Let me explain. Let’s say you want to make a lot of edits to make your LinkedIn profile shine. We’re talking edits like: adding to your job history, editing your summary, or adding to your education. Each one of those edits will appear in your activity feed that others see. It’s not a big deal, but sometimes you want to make all those tweaks at once without people seeing them as you do them. To do this, you’ll want to temporarily turn off your activity broadcasts. Here’s how:

  1. Hover over your photo in the right-hand corner of your screen.
  2. Select “Privacy & Settings.”
  3. Under “Privacy Controls,” select “Turn off your activity broadcasts.”
  4. Uncheck the “Let people know…” box.
  5. Save changes.
  6. Make all of your updates (except updating your photo)

After you’ve made all of your updates and have saved them, and you have your page looking really great… save the best for last: updating your profile picture. Why? People can’t resist looking at that updated photo of you, but you want to “turn your activity feed back on first by the reversing the steps above:

  1. Hover over your photo in the right-hand corner of your screen.
  2. Select “Privacy & Settings.”
  3. Under “Privacy Controls,” select “Turn off your activity broadcasts.”
  4. Check the “Let people know…” box.
  5. Save changes.

NOW you want to update your photo. Your network will click on it, land on spruced up profile page, and see your most up-to-date information.
